Are Android Task Managers Killing Your Android Phone?

Android task killers

This post concerns about the much debated topic ‘Whether task killers are doing more harm than good?’ It also concerns the other apps that slows down your android phone and or drain your battery.

Regular android users, over the months, are very much frustrated about their battery backup time and their awful state of charging their phone often. These users often turn to task killers/app killers/ optimizers to increase the speed and battery power of the device. This is based on the assumption that killing background apps could possibly increase the speed and extend battery life of the phone.

Killing tasks in task manager may have certainly worked well with increasing speed and performance of their PC. But one thing that people haven’t understood is that android phones don’t manage memory like a PC. Android phones memory management, on its own, is very powerful. Android makes sure it does everything to preserve the battery life of the device.

The memory manager of android phones ‘suspends’ the unused apps in background, such that they don’t consume any battery power or processor power. But these suspended apps could resume quickly when they are restarted. Hence the speed is also maintained. Whenever the memory exceeds, android memory manager silently kills the least used app from background, without the user knowing.

But the truth behind the so called ‘task killers’ is that they kill your speed. Whenever Task killers ‘Force Kill’ an app (sometimes automatically), the next time you start the app it tends to start more sluggishly and delayed. Some apps (messenger apps) even restart on their own, which in turn will consume even more power. A test at PC World show that and we quote

“Overall, using an app killer produced an increase in battery life, but one so small that most people wouldn’t notice it. And on a couple of phones, battery life remained unchanged, or decreased, with an app killer on the job.”

Even antivirus apps and battery savers consume more than they give us. Therefore we recommend that you uninstall battery savers, task killers and antivirus apps from your android mobile.

Your Mobile speed could be improved by the following tips,

  • Clean unnecessary apps once in a while. (Like 3 months once should be enough).
  • Installing just one or two social messengers that you often use is a wiser decision than trying out every single thing available in the play store.
  •  Install only your favorite games, installing a maximum of five or six games is enough or else will lead to frequent crashes.
  • Be choosy about the apps, think twice or even thrice before installing an app.
  • I will also update on whether an antivirus is really needed for your android phone and tips to speed up battery life in a separate post.
